A trip to Planet Z
By Hugh Robinson
Today, Ben's science teacher, Mr Jackson, asks the class to do a project about weather.
Pick an interesting topic about weather.
Give me your projects on Monday.
Can I write about animals in hot and cold places?
Yes, of course you can! Good idea.
What can I write about? I don't want to do the same as Tina.
I know! It's Saturday tomorrow.
We can learn about weather at the science museum.
Good idea! I love science museums. But I can't go this weekend.
Maybe Dad can take me to the science museum tomorrow too …
On Saturday, Dad takes Ben and Betty to the science museum.
There are lots of fun things to do there.
Ben watches a video about weather on the big television.
Look, Betty! An alien is talking!
I'm Zim. I'm from Planet Z, but I live on Earth now.
I want to tell you about weather in different seasons on your planet!
In winter, the weather is very cold and sometimes snowy!
In spring, the weather becomes warm.
In summer, it is hot and wet.
Autumn is sunny and cool.
That's a good topic for my project!
Now I know all about weather in different seasons.
I can write about it for my project!
Oh no! That's Sam. I can't do the same as Sam.
That night, Ben thinks about his project.
And he thinks about the alien …
Maybe I can write about the weather on a different planet!
Zim is from Planet Z. But what's the weather like there?
Suddenly, Ben hears a knock on the window.
Hi Ben! I'm here to help you with your project.
Planet Z has very interesting weather.
Come with me! Bring an umbrella.
Wow! Cool!
Ben and Zim fly to Planet Z. Ben looks out of the window.
Your spaceship is amazing. I can see Earth! It looks beautiful.
Is Planet Z close?
No. It's far away. But my spaceship is very fast!
Soon, they arrive.
Ben and Zim get out of the spaceship and walk around.
It is sunny on Planet Z.
The weather is so nice and hot!
Is it summer here too?
No. Planet Z doesn't have seasons.
That's not like Earth. Earth has four seasons.
You're right.
There are no seasons on Planet Z, but the weather changes often.
And there are lots of storms.
The sky looks cloudy over there.
Please, weather, don't change!
Suddenly, the wind starts to blow.
A big storm is coming.
Oh no … My umbrella! It's too windy.
And now it's raining! I'm so wet.
Isn't the weather great on Planet Z?
Zim is enjoying the weather …
… but Ben is not.
No, it isn't! Where's the spaceship? I want to go home!
But this is so much fun!
Oh … are you crying, Ben? OK. Let's go.
Ben and Zim look for the spaceship.
But the weather is too bad! They cannot find it!
I can't see! I'm afraid, Zim!
The storm is coming!
Finally, Ben and Zim can see the spaceship …
Look! The spaceship!
Run!
Suddenly, Ben wakes up.
It is Sunday morning and Planet Z is just a dream.
Phew! What a strange dream. But now I have an idea for my project.
I can write all about the weather on Planet Z!
Ben starts his project.
He writes a story about the weather on Planet Z.
My friend Zim comes from another planet.
Today we are flying in his spaceship to Planet Z.
The weather there is very different.
Ben hands his project in on Monday.
He gets his grade the following week.
D! Why, Mr Jackson?
This isn't a science project, Ben. This is a story. Planet Z isn't real! But …
… Every week, Miss Blair sends the best stories to a children's magazine.
They love your story! Look! Here it is.
You win a free trip to the science museum!
That's great! But I don't need the free trip.
Tina, do you want to go?
Yes! Thanks, Ben!
