Lazy Ben
Ben is Tina's friend.
He does not like to do his homework.
Every day after school, Ben plays computer games in his bedroom.
He does not listen to Mum or Dad.
Do your homework first, Ben.
Do your homework first, Ben.
Today is Ben's birthday. He is eight.
He invites Tina and some other friends to his birthday party.
He wants to play computer games with them.
When he gets home from school, he is very excited.
He rushes into his room to get ready.
Ben sits down at his desk.
He wants to play computer games as usual.
Do your homework first, Ben.
On my birthday …?
Ben does not do his homework. He starts to daydream.
He thinks about his birthday party and his friends.
He thinks about playing computer games with them.
Mum asks Ben about his homework, but Ben does not tell the truth.
Have you finished your homework, Ben?
Er, yes …
Soon Ben's friends arrive. They give him many nice presents.
Then they all play games together in Ben's room.
Ben forgets all about his homework.
Mum and Dad prepare a lot of food and drinks for the birthday party.
Everyone sits down to eat.
Enjoy the party, boys and girls!
There are lots of tasty things to eat and everyone has a good time.
After a while, Ben's little sister Betty carries a birthday cake to the table.
Mum puts eight candles on the cake and lights them.
Blow out the candles and make a wish, Ben!
Be careful about your wish!
Ben takes a deep breath …
But before he blows out the candles, Ben thinks for a while.
What shall I wish for?
I wish … I wish I had a wizard to do my homework for me!
Ben blows out all the candles and everyone claps.
The next morning, Ben is very tired.
He thinks about his birthday party, but he does not think about his homework.
At school, everyone hands in their workbooks.
Ben is worried because he has not done his homework.
But when he takes out his workbook, he gets a big surprise.
Someone has done my homework for me!
Well done, Ben! You did your homework very well.
Ben is so happy.
From that day on, the same thing happens every day.
Ben plays computer games all evening, and someone always does the homework for him.
Soon it is time for the exams.
Ben is worried. He does not know what to do.
But when the exam starts, Ben can write the answers easily.
His pen seems to have magic powers.
It's amazing!
The next day, Ben's teacher Miss Blair hands back the exam papers.
When she hands back Ben's, she looks angry.
Ben. your exam paper is completely blank!
What happened? You didn't even write your name correctly.
Ben looks at his exam paper.
On the top of the first page, it says, 'Name: Wizard.'
Ben is shocked and very ashamed.
Today after school, Ben does not play computer games.
He sits down at his desk.
I'll do my homework first.
What's happening to Ben today?
