Summer, please stay
Dad reads a story to Tina today.
Cyril the squirrel lives in a tree.
He is lazy and a little silly.
All summer, Cyril sleeps and plays.
The weather is warm.
There is food everywhere.
Cyril forgets about winter.
He forgets to collect food.
Autumn comes.
The leaves turn yellow and start to fall.
The wind starts to blow. Cyril gets worried.
Summer, please stay!
Cyril has an idea.
I can make the leaves stay. Then summer can stay too!
Cyril finds some string.
He ties the leaves to the tree.
Now summer can stay.
The next day, the leaves stop falling, but they are still yellow.
The wind still blows and blows.
Cyril has another idea.
I can paint the leaves green. Then summer can stay!
The next day, the green leaves are still on the tree.
But the wind gets cold and strong.
Cyril looks up at the sky and starts to cry.
I can't make summer stay!
Mollie the clever monkey comes.
Why do you cry on such a lovely autumn day?
I don't want summer to go away, but I can't make it stay!
Silly Cyril! Summer goes. Then autumn comes.
Autumn goes. Then winter comes.
You can't make the seasons go or stay!
Cyril and Mollie then find some food together.
Cyril is not cold and hungry any more.
He can stay warm and happy this winter.
And Cyril is not lazy any more!
You're right.
