Old red packets
By JoAnn Dionne
Chinese New Year is coming.
Dad cleans our flat.
Look at my bedroom.
It is very untidy.
I clean my bedroom.
I put away my books.
I put away my clothes.
I put away my toys.
What are these?
Oh, old red packets from last year!
Mum! Old red packets!
Let's do something fun!
Mum gives me some crayons and paper.
She cuts and glues.
I fold and draw. I draw some fireworks and stars.
Look! I have some Chinese New Year's cards.
One card for my grandmother and grandfather.
Dear Grandmother and Grandfather,
How are you? I am fine.
Happy Chinese New Year!
Love,
Joyce
One card for Aunt Jenny and Uncle Paul.
Dear Aunt Jenny and Uncle Paul,
How are you? I am fine.
Happy Chinese New Year!
Love,
Joyce
And one card for Mum and Dad.
Dear Mum and Dad,
Happy Chinese New Year!
Love,
Joyce
On Chinese New Year's Day, Aunt Jenny and Uncle Paul come to visit us. They give me 'new' red packets.
'Thank you.'
I like Chinese New Year.
