Elder and Oak

Elder and Oak -There Will Be Fireworks

The faded shine of an old copper coin on each eye

Was it the sound of a holy roar

Or a thief stealing through the back door

When they carried you home

Did you think you'd stay long

Are you waiting waiting waiting

For something to drink or smoke

Does it ever keep you up at night

Now you wait for night to put on his old 45s

And you dance in the starlit loft

While the shadows move quiet and soft

In our coats on the lawn with our Sunday best on

You were shaking shaking shaking

And under the elder and oak

We stayed up we didn't go home

And so we lay our backs against the weeds

A stony sainted silence at our feet

A million foundry fires lit up the sky

And as the city slowly stirred they died
