Valentine's Day

Well I was staring out the backseat window, driving on the Five

It looked like the edge of the world was burning down on my left side

And at a party the night before back in Oceanside

We wrote down what we loved

What we thought we did or wanted to

On little construction paper cut out hearts

And we strung them up on twine in Erica's living room

And we sat around outside

And we gave ourselves away around a fire

And it was Valentine's Day

And at one point, I punched a hole through some conversation

I overheard, I crawled right in, as a girl had said

"I've just got so much to do

And I got to do it while I'm young

Oh I've got to do it while I'm free"

And I realized what she said was an excuse

What she probably wanted to say was so simple, so plain

'Cause saying you've got a lot to do or see when you're still young

Means you're not happy where you are or with who you're with

And as I watched the fire burn us to the ground
