The Plunge

My youthful joy

And my biggest fear

I'm familiar at the surface

But not what's underneath

How could this happen

The water's so cold

And you're growing smaller

From my vantage point

I swear I've always felt safe here, with you at the helm

But you can't always expect the unprecedented

Now I pay the price

I'm losing my sight

I'm losing my mind

There's a date that passes

Each year secretly

Telling when I'll expire

And that day might be here

The harder I swim the heavier I feel

As you come closer, the distance seems greater

Then finally I break through the surface

Body feeling like lead, I turn towards the plunge

And I snarl, “who's laughing now”
