I've been more or less faithful

I've been more or less true

more or less an ally

to the people that I knew

I've been living in my own world

but my own world's not alone

spinning out of order

like a universal stone

burning in the atmosphere

of other people's domes

I've been thinking about religion

I've been wondering where it went

shot down like a pigeon in a Paris parkette

I've been low and beholden

holding on too tight

sleeping through the mornings

and dreaming through the nights

with a periodic blast of a sacrificial light

and the man on the television said

there's a million people dead

and the kings and queens of

somewhere are screaming for a head

I've been going through my memory

and I can't remember much

in the minute's where i live it
