Devotion

I could be in someone’s bed tonight,

but instead I am warming ours,

in case you change your mind.

I could be in someone’s hands clasped tight,

I’m mixing whisky and water,

in my worst behaviour.

Oh devotion,

I wear it on my collar.

But oh devotion,

how you dwarf in the heat of a moment.

You could be in someone’s bed tonight,

and I wouldn’t know any better,

like an estranged kite.

You could be in someone’s head tonight,

and dear god I hope it wasn’t mine,

but you know that is a lie.

Oh devotion,

I wear it on my finger.

But oh devotion,

how you dwarf in the heat of a moment.
