Birthday

Hi,mamama...

Watching you sleep in the blue light from the clock radio by the bed

Rattle of wires in the cortex

Got my own radio speaking in tongues

I will make you peanut butter toast

I will make you eggs and orange juice

I will dress well in my finest shirt

I will dress finely for your birthday

You sleep so quietly

Outside it's your birthday

You sleep so quietly

The hole in the wall where the pickles struck

Glints like the edge of a cool bayonet

The hands on the clock stand in freeze frame

Spin like a stop motion carousel

I will make you peanut butter toast

I will make you eggs and orange juice

I will dress well in my finest shirt

I will dress finely for your birthday

You sleep so quietly

Outside it's your birthday

You sleep so quietly
